Public Sector Workforce 2030: Planning for the Next Generation of State & Local Government Employee

The Center for State and Local Government Excellence, The National League of Cities, and ICMA-RC are hosting ‘Public Sector Workforce 2030: Planning for the Next Generation of State and Local Government Employees to equip state and local government leaders with new tools and ideas to plan for the public sector workforce of the future. It will kick off on Thursday, September 26th with an opening reception and will be followed by a full day summit on Friday, September 27th at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 

 

The summit will bring together a diverse mix of elected officials, government agency managers, retirement administrators, HR professionals, labor representatives, and the research community to examine pressing issues at the forefront of the public sector workforce: 

 

·       Workforce Trends: Recruitment and development; Generational differences and demographic shifts, and equity and inclusion; Positions experiencing growth and contraction, jobs difficult to fill; Technological advancements, adapting education systems, and technical training 

·       Rethinking Retirement:  Restructuring retirement plans; Applying models from private/nonprofit, international, and other settings; Using behavioral economics to encourage better saving habits 

·       Health and Wellness Benefits: Work-life balance (e.g., family leave, elder care); Schedule flexibility, succession planning and advancement opportunities; Cost-effective ways of fostering a healthier workforce
