Gun violence is spiking across the United States, and new data suggests 2021 is on pace to be one of the deadliest on record. According to Gun Violence Archive, as of December 7, 2021, the nation has recorded 19,319 homicides and other fatal shootings, and as 657 mass shootings have taken place . Gun violence has jumped in communities across the country. Lack of access to income, suitable housing, and other critical life needs are all key drivers of gun violence, and decades of policy decisions and under investment in Black and Latino communities have created areas of concentrated disadvantage, where public health crises thrive.
