National Corporate Council

One of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators’ (NFBPA) central themes is the cultivation of partnerships between businesses, institutions and individuals in the public and private sectors. As black public administrators endeavor to address critical issues and pressing concerns impacting state and local governments, the need to explore mutually beneficial, cooperative relationships with private institutions becomes increasingly important. The National Corporate Council provides a unique forum in which corporate executives and public executives can come together to explore and test innovative solutions to important challenges. Through these partnerships, both government and private industry reap significant benefits, including the opportunity to seek cooperative solutions which may improve the quality of life for the citizens of urban and rural America. The NFBPA National Corporate Council was established to assist NFBPA through several key roles:

•  A forum for corporations to communicate with decision-makers,
•  The enhancements of public-private cooperation to forge solutions to urban challenges,
•  An opportunity for corporations to showcase products and services, and,
•  The development of resources to carry out the NFBPA mission.

Benefits of Business Participation:
The NFBPA seeks to forge a partnership between the public and private sectors. Local, county and state government decisions continue to affect the business community. Building codes, tax laws, safety and environmental regulations, procurement rules, and the available workforce all influence business success. Increasingly, black public administrators play major roles in executing the public policy decisions that affect both our business success and personal lives. Through National Corporate Council membership, corporate representatives are able to:

•  Get to know senior black officials from more than 350 different jurisdictions.
•  Access a current membership of more than 2,500 public officials who collectively manage more than $60 billion in public funds.
•  Access a nationwide professional labor force for senior management and executive recruitment.

•  Receive national exposure at annual meetings.
•  Gain a forum for articulating their views and needs to public sector decision-makers.
•  To form strategic partnerships around critical issues impacting the day-to-day operations of state and local governments.

The NFBPA is proud to offer the following services and programs to meet the management and professional development needs of its national membership.

Membership in the National Network:
The opportunity to participate in a vibrant, National Network of the nation's most respected black public professionals and a unique forum in which to exchange management innovations, professional development techniques and skills-building strategies.

Each Business Member is entitled to one seat on the NFBPA National Corporate Council. An alternate may be designated to represent the corporate representative when necessary.

National Membership Directory:
An invaluable tool for networking with peers in public management, the directory contains an alphabetized listing of the association's membership. The Directory is also available in a state roster format. Customized excerpts of the membership directory are available upon request.

Subscription to The Forum Magazine:
NFBPA's informative and widely-read quarterly publication. Look to The Forum for practical advice on professional development and insight on social and economic concerns impacting state and local government and minority communities. The Forum also provides advertising opportunities. Advertising rates can be obtained from the national office.

Web Site Listing and Corporate Link:
As a business member you will be listed on the NFBPA web site (www.nfbpa.org) and have the opportunity to showcase the products and services you offer through a direct link to your corporate web site. 

Local and Regional Chapters:
The NFBPA provides opportunity to associate with any of the 40 Local or Regional Chapters of the NFBPA. Chapter involvement provides another opportunity to build and strengthen relationships with local decision makers.

Participation in NFBPA Board Committees, Task Forces, Councils and Constituent Groups:
Provides opportunities to influence and contribute to the ongoing work of NFBPA, network with local decision-makers and develop relationships with a broad array of public administrators.

NCC Committees

To achieve its objectives, NCC has established the following committees:

• Conference Planning - Coordinates the NCC activities with the Conference Planning and Evaluation Committee for NFBPA's annual FORUM.
• Fundraising - Develops strategies for seeking financial and other support for NFBPA programs and services.
• Membership - Explores ways to expand the participation of private corporations in NFBPA and NCC.
• Program- Develops supportive programs for NFBPA.
• Scholarship- NCC members sponsor student scholarships, which enable deserving public administration students to attend NFBPA's annual conference.

Members of NCC are appointed to each committee; they also work with local NFBPA Chapters on projects of mutual interest.
